Asymm Project has finally won the three cobbled classics. This morning, Qi Yiqun was the first rider to cross the line in Huy, after a hard day in the saddle despite the sunny and warm conditions still present in Flanders.
Rumours regarding Holger's "abilities" for cooking a special breakfast for his riders at the start were vigorously denied by the manager himself:
"All I gave the riders can be found on a supermarket here. It's not my problem if the rest of the teams haven't experienced yet with mixing chocolate soy milk and Jupiler beer".
The manager pointed out that maybe the forced conversion to veganism that he's applied to the team might have given them super powers.
All in all, Holger reminded, there's still a lot of work to do for Asymm Project to be remembered as one of the greatest cobble teams of the OCM:
"We still haven't won TvA, which is a shame. Next edition will happen in January, when the roads are icy, so with Yiqun's technique abilities that might give us a higher chance. We have to think if we should skip the rest of the season to get TF again. We will still be living in Antwerp by then, so we're inspecting all the roads. On the other hand, our Astana victory was a curious one, since despite that race being the only Asian classic, we didn't win it with an Asian rider [Teravainen is Finnish]. So we still have a good amount of things to do."
However, Yiqun's future looks very promising. The rider himself commented that he didn't have any good legs for the race, and that he's missing his teammate Zardooz. Being able to win in not-so-perfect conditions boosts his morale for what's to come:
"Now I know I can do anything on the cobbles. I know I can do even better than this. But you still have to focus on specific objectives. Now I don't know if we should target Astana in 10 days, because that's the Asian classic, or if we should instead rest for TvA, which is our home tour. For the time being, let me celebrate I won a race starting in Antwerp: free Seef for everybody!"
